A multi-dimensional sound that moves listeners and opens up new horizons.

Alto saxophonist Caroline Davis’ rich and insistent sound spans a wide spectrum – her projects range from melodious jazz to challenging, improvised music and modern classical to experimental R&B and folk. Davis sees herself as an artist and activist. She wants to make a difference through her musical engagement and tease out new perspectives for curious listeners.

Caroline Davis first heard R&B and gospel in Atlanta at the age of six — two styles of music that inspired her so much that she learned to play the saxophone a few years later. She went on to study psychology and music at Northwestern University. Davis has released seven internationally acclaimed albums and has shared the stage with such greats as Lee Konitz, Rajna Swaminathan, Angelica Sanchez, John Zorn and Billy Kaye. As an educator, Davis brings her outstanding knowledge of music and its connection with psychology to the New School and to Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and the Lincoln Jazz Center.

With her newly founded quartet, Carolin Davis will lead the audience through a delightful and captivating combination of originals and classics, achieving a skillful balancing act between composed and freely improvised content.
