Jorge Rossy Quintet featuring Chris Cheek - Iulianus Suite

Felix Rossy: trumpet
Chris Cheek: alto sax
Jorge Rossy: piano
Albert Sanz: hammond organ
RJ Miller: drums

Jorge Rossy is not just a world-class percussionist: for the last ten years he has been passionately devoted to the piano again, the first instrument he learnt as a child.

Following an impressive career as a sideman on the drums, and known above all for his long-standing professional relationship with Brad Mehldau, Spanish-born Jorge Rossy, who spent many years living in America before later returning to his homeland, decided to take up the piano once again and head up his own band to perform his own compositions. Accompanied by his four superb sidemen, the overwhelming success of this venture is clear. Among his fellow musicians is his young and highly talented son, Felix, on the trumpet – an instrument once also played by his father for ten years. The presence of the great and renowned saxophonist Chris Cheek represents a further highlight within the quintet, ensuring countless flights of fancy. The Hammond organ, too, adds to the character of the band's overall sound.

With his beautiful, sensitive and harmonious “Iulianus Suite”, Jorge Rossy demonstrates his skill as a highly talented, impressive composer. With a richness of tone that can be described as both concertante and aesthetic, he relates a homogenous jazz story in which elegance, expressiveness and tension become one, allowing the improvisational talents of each individual musician to unfold superbly.
